In the Mix Movie Review
Night club owner and Disc Jockey Darrell (Usher) is asked to DJ for old family friend and Mafia head Mr. Frank Pichelli’s (Chazz Palminteri) at his home. He is throwing a surprise party for his daughter, Dolly (Emmanuelle Chriqui). She is returning home from law school. Although Darrell is in the night club working, he accepts the invitation offered through Frank Jr. and two men dressed in suits.

While at the party, Darrell is introduced to Dolly’s boyfriend. Then Mr. Pichelli and Darrell reminisce on old times and the connection the two share. Then Dolly arrives. When she walks into Darrell’s view, he pauses. In that second, it is almost as if time stops for him. She talks to him about their past, and then she asks about his girlfriend. He is about to tell her, but their conversation is interrupted. As her dad stands in front the window preparing to make a toast, Darrell notices a car driving by with a man holding a gun. He in lunges onto Mr. Pichelli, saving his life. However, he gets hit by the bullet in the process. Mr. Pichelli, takes care of Darrell while he heals.

Mr. Pichelli is worried about his daughters safety. When Dolly is leaving to go shopping her dad tells her he wants to have someone with her whenever she goes out. She is upset, telling him she wants to choose who can be her body guard. That’s when she chooses Darrell. His jaw drops when Mr. Pichelli comes to him with this proposal. However, he agrees to do it. He does not want to let Mr. Pichelli down.

Darrell accompanies Dolly everywhere. In the evening when Dolly relaxes in the pool, Darrell watches her briefly from the window. When he comes outside, she asks him to join her. He is hesitant, but decides to jump in. As they are talking to one another, the chemistry undeniably floats around them. Can Darrell protect her without the distraction of his feelings? Will Dolly stay faithful to her boyfriend despite this evident attraction?

I think there may be trouble brewing.

Directed by Ron Underwood, this dramedy has it all: comedy, kidnapping, and romance. It also has many twists and turns until the end.

Darrell is a sweet guy with big dreams. He is determined to have a record label. Dolly is a strong willed woman who knows what she wants. While Mr. Pichelli may be in the mob, he is a concerned father.

I didn’t know what to expect from this movie. I know Usher is a phenomenal performer and singer, but I never had the opportunity to see him carry a lead role. This was it. I must say, he did well. It would be wonderful to see him in other lead roles. I truly enjoyed this movie and the chemistry shared between the two characters. This is great to watch for a night in with your girlfriends or date night.

I was not paid to endorse this movie in any way. It comes from my movie collection. The views and opinions that are expressed are my own.
