Party Hardy and Neil Diamond roses are two outstanding modern roses for landscapes.
Party Hardy Shrub Rose
Party Hardy is a relatively new rose variety that was introduced in 2011 by Weeks Roses. It was hybridized by Christian Bedard. The plant originated in Canada, which likely accounts for its very hardy nature.
This will grow in zone three with no winter protection. It can be grown in zones three through nine, but does in fact prefer cool climates.
The very tough, reliable plant has excellent disease resistance. Its parentage includes Marie Victorin rose. The shrubby, dense, tall, upright to slightly spreading shrub is four to 5½ feet in height.
The blossoms attract butterflies. The very double blossoms feature up to forty six petals. These flowers are borne in showy clusters that cover the plant.
Party Hardy roses are large, up to 4½ inches wide. These are rounded, old fashioned type roses. The petals are vivid to dark pink with a lighter pink reverse.
Neil Diamond Hybrid Tea Rose
Why did we have to wait so long for the Neil Diamond rose? In any case, it has been well worth the wait for these flowers are just spectacular. This relatively recent introduction was introduced in2015 by Weeks Roses. It was hybridized by Tom Carruth.
Appropriately enough, this rose’s parentage includes the Rock & Roll rose and the Della Reese rose. With a moderate growth rate, the dense, spreading rose is expected to have a lifespan of twenty years or so.
The plant is recommended for hedges, screens, and mass planting. Due to the spectacularly colored blossoms, this would also make a great specimen plant.
This disease resistant, vigorous, upright plant is 4½ to 5½ feet in height with a four foot spread. The flowers attract pollinators.
Neil Diamond rose is a repeat bloomer that is almost always in bloom from late spring into the fall. The long stems of these roses mean they’re perfect for cut flowers. As an added bonus, there is the intense classic rose scent as well. These roses are very full with a forty to fifty petal count.
Neil Diamond roses are medium to large, four to five inches wide. These are bicolor with a blend of the rich pink interspersed with random white stripes.
